Planting & Care Instructions
-
Soil Preparation: Requires light, loose, well-draining sandy-loam soil free of rocks or hard clumps for smooth, round root growth. Potting mix: fine garden soil, cocopeat, and compost/vermicompost in equal proportions. Maintain soil pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
-
Sowing: Direct sow seeds into final containers or garden beds 1 cm ($\frac{1}{2}$ inch) deep. Space seeds 3 to 4 inches apart in rows spaced 8–10 inches apart. Keep soil evenly moist. Soaking seeds in warm water for 4–6 hours prior to sowing improves germination.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy. Uneven watering causes root cracking, while overwatering leads to root rot.
-
Spacing & Care: Each beetroot "seed ball" contains multiple seeds, so thin young seedlings to 3–4 inches (8–10 cm) apart once they reach 2 inches in height. Keep soil loose and mound soil lightly over developing root tops to protect them from heat. Feed with potassium and phosphorus-rich organic manure every 3 weeks (avoid excessive nitrogen to prevent lush leaves with small roots). Spray neem oil solution to protect against leaf miners.
