Planting & Care Instructions
-
Soil Preparation: Requires light, soft, well-draining sandy-loam soil free of rocks or hard clumps to ensure straight root development. Potting mix: fine garden soil, cocopeat, and well-rotted compost or vermicompost. Maintain soil pH between 6.0 and 6.8.
-
Sowing: Sow seeds directly into final containers or garden beds 0.5 cm ($\frac{1}{4}$ inch) deep. Space rows 8–10 inches apart. Keep soil evenly moist in a semi-shaded or bright area until sprouts emerge. (Carrots do not like transplanting; direct sowing is recommended).
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during germination and root development. Avoid overwatering or letting soil dry out completely, which causes root cracking.
-
Spacing & Care: Thin young seedlings to 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) apart once they reach 2 inches in height to allow room for roots to expand. Keep soil loose and mound soil lightly around root shoulders to prevent greening. Feed with potassium and phosphorus-rich organic fertilizer every 3 weeks (avoid excess nitrogen to prevent hairy roots). Spray neem oil solution for pest control.
