Planting & Care Instructions

  1. Soil Preparation: Requires light, well-draining, fertile sandy-loam soil. Potting mix: fine garden soil, cocopeat, and compost or vermicompost in equal proportions. Maintain soil pH between 6.0 and 7.5.

  2. Sowing: Sow seeds directly into final containers or garden beds 1 to 1.5 cm ($\frac{1}{2}$ inch) deep. Space seeds 3 to 4 inches apart in rows spaced 8–10 inches apart. Keep soil evenly moist. Soaking seeds in water for 6–8 hours prior to sowing speeds up germination. (Direct sowing is recommended as peas do not like transplanting).

  3. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and pod development. Avoid overwatering or letting water stagnate at the roots.

  4. Spacing & Care: Provide lightweight wooden sticks, a small netting, or string support for climbing vines as they grow. As a nitrogen-fixing legume, green peas require minimal heavy nitrogen fertilizers; feed with organic compost or seaweed extract every 2–3 weeks once flowering starts. Spray neem oil solution to protect against powdery mildew and aphids.
