Planting & Care Instructions

  1. Soil Preparation: Requires rich, well-draining, fertile soil high in organic content. Potting mix: fine garden soil, cocopeat, and compost or vermicompost in equal proportions. Maintain soil pH between 6.0 and 7.5.

  2. Sowing: Sow seeds 0.5 cm ($\frac{1}{4}$ inch) deep in seedling trays or nursery beds. Keep soil lightly moist in a sunny location until germination.

  3. Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist. Uniform watering prevents the swollen stems from becoming woody, tough, or cracking.

  4. Spacing & Care: Transplant healthy 25–30 day old seedlings into final containers spaced 6 to 8 inches (15–20 cm) apart. Feed with well-decomposed organic manure or liquid seaweed extract every 2 weeks once plants start forming globes. Spray neem oil solution to protect against cabbage caterpillars and aphids. Harvest when globes reach 2 to 3 inches in diameter for peak tenderness.
